On July 18, the Central Election Commission adopted decision on division of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 100 majority constituencies according to the requirements of the Law “On Elections to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan” and on the approval of their scheme and graphic description.
Parties for national statehood, national movement and democratic enlightenment registered by the Central Election Commission decided to participate in elections as blocks of political parties and “Democratic Azerbaijan” Block of Political Parties was registered for the first time in the practice of parliamentary elections of the country.
According to the Decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on November 25, 2000 re-elections to the Milli Majlis were appointed to January 4, 2001 in remaining 11 constituencies.

The position of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is that consideration of the Caspian as a lake or a sea does not change to any extent the results of its division into sectors which are formed by means of drawing a line down the middle.
