The Alliance of Builders of Islamic Iran (ائتلاف آبادگران ایران اسلامی; E'telāf-e Ābādgarān-e Īrān-e Eslāmī), usually shortened to Abadgaran (آبادگران), is an alliance of some conservative Iranian political parties and organizations. The alliance, mostly active in Tehran, has won almost all of the Tehran's seats in the Iranian Majlis election of 2004 and the Iranian City and Village Councils election of 2003. Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad, the mayor of Tehran (who is chosen by Tehran's City Council), is considered one of the main figuers in the alliance.
Iran demanded the withdrawal of Iraqi troops from Iranian territory and the return to the status quo ante for the Shatt al-Arab as established under the 1975 Algiers Agreement signed by Iraq and Iran.
Iran is trying to modernize its military and acquire weapons of mass destruction; it does not yet have, but continues to seek, nuclear capabilities.
Iran has cultural ties to elements of both the Iraqi and Afghan populations and it remains to be seen whether they will be a constructive force in the reconstruction of those countries or not.
To dilate on the dynamics and peculiarities of Islamic revolutions in Iran and Afghanistan, would indeed require elaborate analyses, but without going into the details, it would suffice to say that the Iranian Revolution is unique of its kind in the history of great ideological movements, which totally metamorphosed the traditional system.
The Shah of Iran, whose words were a decree, was reduced to a non - entity depriving him of all his glamour and imperialistic majesty and arrogance, and he had to depart from the world unwept and unsung.
It is indeed a strange coincidence that while Iran was engaged in a deadly encounter with the enemies of the revolution, Afghanistan became a victim of unabashed aggression by the Soviet forces.
