Alpha Gamma Sigma (AGS) is a statewide community college honor society in California. Founded by Dr. William T. Boyce, Head administrator of Fullerton College, in 1925. It is similar to Phi Beta Kappa in four-year colleges across the United States. Its purpose is to foster, promote, maintain, and recognize excellence in scholastic achievement as well as to provide the campus and community with service-oriented activities. Alpha stands for "Arete" meaning "Good Character" or "Virtue"

Gamma stands for "Gnosis" meaning "Knowledge"

Sigma stands for "Sophrosyne" meaning "Good Judgment"

Eligibility Requirements

1. Current enrollment at California community college

2. Completion within the last two years or 12 graded units in a maximum of 3 semesters or 5 quaters at any recognized institution of higher education

3. A grade point average of 3.0 or better from the previous semester or a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or Life membership in the California Scholarship Federation (the State High School Honor Society)
