Biography

Hyatt was born in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Yale in 1862. He fought in the US Civil War, reaching the rank of Captain. Studied under Louis Agassiz. Followed Lamarckism. He edited American Naturalist between 1867 and 1870. Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1870-1888.
