Alpine is a town located in Lincoln County, Wyoming. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 550.


Geography

Alpine is located at 43°9'40" North, 111°1'4" West (43.161223, _111.017883)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 km˛ (0.7 mi˛). 1.8 km˛ (0.7 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 550 people, 217 households, and 146 families residing in the town. The population density is 303.4/km˛ (787.9/mi˛). There are 274 housing units at an average density of 151.1/km˛ (392.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 96.73% White, 0.00% African American, 0.73% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 1.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 217 households out of which 27.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% are married couples living together, 5.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.99.


In the town the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 36.7% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 107.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.6 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $45,313, and the median income for a family is $47,813. Males have a median income of $35,313 versus $23,036 for females. The per capita income for the town is $21,223. 5.1% of the population and 3.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.1% of those under the age of 18 and 0.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Frankly, the main reason Alpine exists is due to the fact that it is a great spot for travelers to visit en route to and from Jackson and is home for quite a few folks who make the commute to Jackson to make a living.
Alpine Junction has a handful of quality lodging choices at considerably lower rates than Jackson, but reservations are strongly advised if you plan on being in the area in July and August as rooms fill up fast.
Alpine Mountain Days, which is held on the third weekend in June, is the big summer festival, with Indian dancing, mountain men, country music, a horseshoe tournament, a fl-powder shoot, arts and crafts, a Dutch-oven cook-off, as well as other numerous activities.
