The A310 had a rear-mounted engine and was initially powered by a four cylinder 1.6 L Renault engine, with maximum power reaching 127 PS DIN (93.5 kW/125 hp), thanks to the use of 6 single barrel webber carburettors. In 1976 the A310 was restyled by Robert Opron and fitted with the more powerful and newly-developed V6 PRV engine. The 2.9 L motor was modified by Alpine, fitted with a double-barrel carburettor that pushed power to 150 PS DIN (110 kW/148 hp). The road car still used a four-speed manual gearbox. Thanks to its low weight of 980 kg (2160 lb), the A-310 V6 could achieve 210 km/h (153 mph).
