Athletics

Alta's girls' soccer team was ranked second in the nation in 2006, and is coached by Lee Mitchell, who was named national coach of the year. The team won a second state championship in 2007.


Alta also enjoys terrific football and basketball teams. Both include Sausan Shakerin and Taylor Brown who plan on continuing into Division I athletics. Shakerin ran for 464 yards in one game against Brighton High School, and Brown nailed 14 3-pointers against rival Hillcrest High School.


Alta also offers football, golf, tennis, cross country, soccer, volleyball, drill, ballroom, dance company, cheerleading, basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving, hockey, baseball, softball, track and field, lacrosse, Rugby union, ultimate frisbee, bowling, and a few other athletic clubs. Extracurricular

Alta enjoys a wide variety of extracurricular activities both of educational and non educational related fields. (See Athletics above) Clubs such as Key Club, and the Peer Leadership Team are actively engaged in community service and school works.[1]


The Academic Decathalon Team has been a driving force and has been placing very well in many competitions placing 2nd in the 2005-2006 year in the state of Utah and 4th the following year. The Model United Nations Club has also done very well in regional and state competitions against some of the larger high schools in the area. In the previous years taking home Superior awards and advisory awards.[2] Psychology and Philosophy offers students chances to explore deeper into psychology and philosophy as well as current driving events of the day and the driving forces.[3] A Model United Nations Conference in Stuttgart, Germany in action. ...


Alta's Multi Media department is taking on the opportunity to do more and more video news in Alta High School. Alta's music program draws crowds with its band and orchestra, as well as choir. Alta, along with the rest of the state, has a historically strong choral program. Its groups include Madrigals, A Capella, and Jazz Choir. Alta is home to an ever rising band and orchestra program with a symphony orchestra, concert, and symphonic band headed by William J. Mattingly. In 2006, the symphonic band took second at the Heritage Festival in California, and in 2007 they made it to state competition. In addition, its dance teams have done very well and been great attractions due to their talent. A concert band, also called wind band, symphonic band, symphonic winds, wind orchestra, wind symphony, or wind ensemble, is a performing ensemble consisting of several members of the woodwind instrument family, brass instrument family and percussion instrument family. ... Art enthusiasts can gather at Art Club and show off their artistic skills to their peers. There is a club dedicated to Anime as well as its counterpart Manga.[4] There are also several language clubs, including French, German, and Spanish, each dedicated to the language and the culture from which it developed. These clubs will often throw culturally significant parties such as Mardi Gras.[5] Alta also has a strong theatre department and a Drama Club, where both Drama and stage tech scholars can gather for a good time.
