Altheim (about 5,000 inhabitants) is a town in Upper Austria featuring a geothermal district heating serving most of the town buildings.
The Altheim concept consists in the utilisation of geothermal water at a temperature near 100 deg C, to generate electric energy and to supply heat to a small district heating system.
The experimental results at the Altheim site show that it is possible to utilise efficiently geothermal fluids at a temperature near 100 deg C to produce both electricity and district heating.
