Alton was the home to the world's largest blue catfish before it was caught by Tim Pruitt on May 22nd, 2005.
The station is the terminus for two railwaylines; the AltonLine which runs to Brookwood, and the Mid Hants Watercress Railway, which runs to Alresford.
As well as the two train lines, Alton is also a terminal for the "Rail-link" bus service which runs between the station and Liphook railway station via the town of Bordon.
