Altona was a friendly place, the students very open and cheerful and the pier was, and presumably still is the meeting place for young people in the summer.
Altona had the best hockey field in the district, next to the Youth Club Hall but when we visited other schools we often played on what appeared to be ploughed fields and winning was a matter of strength and determination.
