Encyclopedia > Alvesta Municipality

Alvesta is a Municipality in the Kronoberg County and the Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 974.8 km². Of the total population of 18916, 9579 are male, and 9337 are female. The population density of the community is 19 inhabitants per km².


Alvesta is also the town (formerly officially a köping) which is the centre of the municipality. Alvesta is an important railway junction, joining the StockholmMalmöCopenhagen railway with the GothenburgKalmar/Karlskrona railway. Other major settlements in the municipality – Vislanda, Moheda and Torpsbruk – are also located along the former.


Some well-known natives of Alvesta are the magician Joe Labero and the ATP Tennis player Jonas Björkman. The former World #1 in the same sport, Mats Wilander, was originally from Torpsbruk.
