The preparatory work is essentially that of earthworks with the objective of changing the course of the Alzette’s riverbed, widening and raising the riverbed, and removing the artificial dyke between the Alzette and the existing ponds.
The results are an improvement to the ecological value of the Alzette by a reorganisation of the natural riverbed and reduced risk of flooding.
The renaturalisation of the Alzette, from Schifflange to Roeserbann, has allowed the restoration of a floodplain and the preservation of the corncrake’s (Crex crex) habitat.
