Amal Hijazi (Arabic:أمل حجازى) (born on February 20, 1977) is a popular Lebanese singer known throughout the Arab world. Her major success began with the release of her second album, "Einak" (Your Eyes). Hijazi is known for the originality of her music videos and for her instantly recognizable voice and singing style. Currently one of the most active Lebanese singers, Hijazi has given a number of concerts throughout the world and has made countless TV appearences. She is also well known for her support in charity projects.


Hijazi has won huge acclaim from both fans and critics by the release of her latest album,"Baya El Ward" (The Florist). The music video of the single was heavily criticized and caused huge controversies that she was promoting homosexuality . Hijazi denied the allegations but critics argued that, the T-shirt she was wearing in the mucic video had several symbols imprinted on it, which belonged to a garment manufacturer that specializes in clothing for homosexuals. At a press conference she held in Dubai to announce the launch of her album, Hijazi clarified that she did not know what the symbols on the shirt meant or that she never thought to find out when she chose to wear it. Homosexuality refers to sexual and romantic attraction between two individuals of the same sex. ...


Critics aruged that Hijazi had gone to the extreme and cut her hair shorter than that of an ordinary man and accused the video of being unusual because Hijazi chops her hair off and jumps off of a cliff at the end of the video depressing over the guy who left her.


Despite of the heavy conroversies behind the video, the album is considered Hijazi's finest album according to fans.


Career Overview

Her first single was called "Halan" ("Right Away")in 2000, it was followed by her second single "Rayyah Balak" ("Put Your Mind at Ease" one year later, for which she also shot a music video. On the same year her debut album "Akher Gharam" including the hit single "Rayyah Balak" was produced by Dilara Master Production and distributed by Music Master.


Hijazi's next album called "Einak" ("Your Eyes") released 2002 was again produced by Dilara Master Production and includes the title song which was a great duet with the Raï star Faudel. The song was played heavily on the radio and the music video was broadcasted all over the Arab Satellite Channels. It is considered to be the video that made Amal the popular arabic singer she is today. Amal then followed up that huge successful single with the even bigger 2nd single titled 'Zaman' which was a love ballad. That song went on top become one of the biggest hits of 2002 in the Middle East and to date is still considered her best song amongst her fans. The third single 'Romansyia' was also a big hit for Hijazi, continuing her nice streak of hit singles off of her 2nd album. The music video for 'Romansyia' was one of the most popular videos of 2003.


She followed up her successful second album with her third album titled 'Bedawwar A Albi' in 2004, which included her hit single 'Mistanie Eiy'. Even though this album wasn't as successful as her last, 'Mistanie Eiy' and the single 'Bedawwar A Albi' were still nice hits.


Success and Popularity

Her huge popularity in 2003 caused her to land an endorsement deal with the Panasonic company. Amal starred in commercials in which she was seen promoting Panasonic products. The commercials also included her hit singles off of her second album. Panasonic is an international brand name for Japanese electric products manufacturer Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. ...


She followed up her successful second album with her third album titled 'Bedawwar A Albi' in 2004, which included her hit single 'Mistanie Eiy'. Even though this album wasn't as successful as her last, 'Mistanie Eiy' and the single 'Bedawwar A Albi' were still nice hits.


Meanwhile,a Kuwaiti optical firm is paying her a massive $200,000 to shoot a contact lens commercial for the company.
