When drunken JR hit Amanda with his car, Babe took the fall for JR, so Amanda believed Babe was responsible for hitting her, only adding to the enmity between them. Amanda began experiencing blackouts, and during these times odd events began occurring: Babe was pushed down a flight of stairs, the Chandlers' Thanksgiving soup was poisoned, Little Adam Chandler was kidnapped. Amanda secretly feared that she was responsible for these events and couldn't remember, all the while defending herself against Babe and JR's accusations. Jamie, himself suspecting Amanda, played her champion to get information.
Amanda confessed her blackouts to Josh Madden, who hired her as his assistant at Erica Kane's talk show New Beginnings. Josh began to sabotage Erica, even going so far as drugging her, and framed Amanda. By this time, Amanda realized Janet was responsible for the crimes around Pine Valley, but she protected her mother out of maternal loyalty. As Amanda tried to convince her mother to seek counseling, she was thrown in prison for drugging Erica. Her innocence later proven, Amanda realized her mother was planning on blowing up a charity event and rushed to stop her. Amanda was unable to, and people died in the explosion.
