The Museum

Harold LeMay was a successful refuse owner within the Tacoma metro area. After his death the city of Tacoma donated 10 acres of land next to the Tacoma Dome for the car museum. Costing $167million the museum is being called "America's Car Museum". The museum will be about 750,000-square-feet, and contain Harold LeMays cars along with gift shops, restoration shops, lecture halls, banquet room, cafe and experimental activities among other venues. The museum will have a 100 car gallery showing cars of speed, technology, design and culture. Inside the Great Hall will be room to show 150 cars at a time. Under the museum will be room to store up to 2000 additional cars. Outside the museum will be a 3 acre courtyard and clubhouse for car clubs. The car Museum will also become home to LeMay's annual car show. The Museum is set to open in 2009, when the musuem opens it will be the largest automobile museum in the world.

Donors

Harold LeMay's wife, Nancy LeMay donated $15million to the museum. While the City of Tacoma estimated the land donated to the museum is worth $17million. Other donors include various wealthy car collectors, auto clubs and citizens world wide.
