The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is an organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that focuses on aspects of cancer research. Founded in 1907 by eleven physicians and scientists, the organization now has over 24,000 members, approximately a third of which are outside the United States. Hence it is the largest scientific organization in the world, according to its web site. Researchers from Harvard reported data which indicate that enzymes actuated by human pancreatic cells can cleave antithrombin into a strong anti-angiogenesis conformation; they further speculate that this interplay with antithrombin may begin to explain coagulation abnormalities which are not infrequently observed in patients with pancreatic cancer.
Researchers from Liverpool, in a nod toward earlier detection, found that by using an amplified yeast assay, they were able to detect p53 mutations in the pancreatic "juice" of patients who were at high risk of pancreatic cancer.
