Blockbuster Online - American Gothic [TV Series] (839 words)
Too weird and inscrutable for the tastes of most viewers, American Gothic was put on hiatus after only seven episodes on November 3, 1995.
The series was brought back on January 3, 1996, but yanked off the network again a scant five weeks later.
The four untelecast episodes of American Gothic would not be generally seen until the series was released to DVD nearly a decade later.
Classic-Horror Review of American Gothic: The Complete Series (1995) (771 words)
Of all of these programs, perhaps the most worthy is the short-lived "American Gothic." Airing on CBS in the 1995-96 season, the show ably explored the problematic relationship between good and evil, posing some incisive questions despite some narrative muddle.
Universal collects all 22 episodes of "American Gothic" in a three disc set (each double-sided disc holds 7-8 episodes), presented in the order they originally aired (rather than the writer-preferred order).
"American Gothic" stands as a marker of where fantasy in television was heading, and for that alone its worth a view.
