The scope of AJA is defined by the Governing Board of the Archaeological Institute of America as "the art and archaeology of ancient Europe and the Mediterranean world, including the Near East and Egypt, from prehistoric to late antique times." The editors welcome the submission of manuscripts on any subject within that definition.
Although AJA has customarily published both short essays and articles of substantial length, contributions that do not exceed 8,000 words in length including works cited are preferred.
