Amp Fiddler is a funk musician. His debut album Waltz of a Ghetto Fly was released in 2004. Funk is a distinct style of music originated by African-Americans, e. ... 2004 (MMIV) was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar. ...
Joseph ‘Amp’Fiddler was raised in Detroit and began his musical career with the band Enchantment.
Fiddler served a long apprenticeship, writing and recording with artists including Prince, Money Mark, Lucy Pearl, Was Not Was, Seal, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Moodyman, Carl Craig, the Brand New Heavies, and Primal Scream, as well as touring the world with the P-Funk All-Stars before realizing his potential as a solo artist.
But his knowledge is well-earned - Fiddler spent 12 years as a keyboard player for George Clinton and the P Funk All Stars and has done stints with artists from the new breed including Dwele and Maxwell.
And, as he suggests, it is music for the head as much as food for the heart and soul.
Amp weaves songs that speak of the personal and political, the sacred and profane.
Amp never cut the stereotypical figure of the sideman with frustrated solo ambitions: instead, he bided his time, and his solo debut, the critically acclaimed Waltz Of A Ghetto Fly, reaped the rewards.
