The district is located in the northeast of the province. It borders (from north clockwise) the districts Lat Lum Kaeo and Mueang Pathum Thani of Pathum Thani Province, Don Mueang and Lak Si of Bangkok, and Mueang Nonthaburi and Bang Bua Thong of Nonthaburi. The district is crossed by the Chao Phraya River. A large ox bow of the river has been shortened by a canal dug in 1722 in Ayuthaya Era. The island Ko Kret, formed by Khlong Lat Kret and the river, is home of a Mon (also called Raman) community, famous for the pottery. Monam Lai Wichit, the most beautiful pottery product of the island, is also the symbol of the province Nonthaburi.
