Amrithapura is situated 67 kilometers north of Chikamaglur, Karnataka state, India. Amrithapura is known for the splendid Amruteshwara temple. The temple was built in 1196 by a Hoysala General, Amruteshwara Dandanayaka under Veera Ballala II (1173 - 1220 ). This Kakutachala temple facing east has a Garbagriha, Antarala, a Navaranga & Mukhamandapa. The Mukhamandapa is extended into an intended multi-pillared Sabhamandapa which is the most ornate part of this exquisite temple. The ceilings of the Mandapa are highly ornate with different floral decorations and its narrative panels of Ramayana, Mahabharatha & BhagavathGita. An image of goddess goddess Saraswati is one of the best specimens of Hoysala art. It has been suggested that Divisions of Karnataka be merged into this article or section. ...
