Amy Elizabeth Dillwyn (1845-1935) was a Welshnovelist, businesswoman and social benefactor.
She was the daughter of Lewis Dillwyn, owner of the Dillwyn Spelter Works at Swansea. Following her father's death, she managed the works herself. Her unorthodox appearance and lifestyle made her a well-known figure in the local community. She died in Swansea and was buried in the churchyard of St Paul's, Sketty. Her house, Ty Gwyn ("White House"), still stands.
We should not forget Amy's mother, Bessie Dillwyn (nee de la Beche) who died young but must have had a considerable influence on her enterprising daughters.
AmyDillwyn was the sister of my great great grandmother.
She appears in the new Oxford DNB along with her father, uncle John Dillwyn Llewelyn the pioneer photographer and her grandfather Lewis Weston Dillwyn.
