Ana is a mathematical/geometric term referring to a direction in the fourth spatial dimension. It comes from the Greek word for "up". As the other three dimensions all have counterparts, up/down, north/south, east/west, the counterpart of ana is kata (from the Greek word for "down"). Mathematics is commonly defined as the study of patterns of structure, change, and space; more informally, one might say it is the study of figures and numbers.
