Anahola is a census-designated place located in Kauai County, Hawaii. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,932.


Geography

Anahola is located at 22°8'42" North, 159°18'47" West (22.145049, _159.312969)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.2 km˛ (3.9 mi˛). 9.7 km˛ (3.8 mi˛) of it is land and 0.5 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 4.57% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,932 people, 549 households, and 422 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 198.9/km˛ (514.8/mi˛). There are 606 housing units at an average density of 62.4/km˛ (161.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 13.72% White, 0.36% African American, 0.47% Native American, 7.14% Asian, 47.72% Pacific Islander, 1.40% from other races, and 29.19% from two or more races. 8.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 549 households out of which 36.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 17.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.0% are non-families. 14.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.52 and the average family size is 3.98.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.6 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,771, and the median income for a family is $41,302. Males have a median income of $25,875 versus $27,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $13,829. 14.2% of the population and 12.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.5% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
