A limerick is a 5 line poem, composed of an iamb and an anapest, and is often of a whimsical nature.
Anapest - is a 3 syllable sequence, in which the first 2 syllables are unstressed, and the third syllable is stressed.
Dactyl - opposite of anapest, it is a 3 syllable sequence, in which the first syllable is stressed, and the last 2 are unstressed.

Anapest should correctly be pronounced (AN-a-pest), but that is a dactyl pattern (strong-weak-weak).
This limerick is adapted from anapestic by PGS.
Both limericks take their inspiration from a German limerick by Lucas Gruen, which is reproduced by permission in the author's note for anapestic.
