Today Andersonstown has a population of about 10,000. It remains a predominantly working class area. There has been considerable effort to attract employment to the area and to improve the physical infrastructure. It has four Catholic churches: St. Agnes, St. Theresa's, St. Michael's and St. Matthias.


The district is sometimes colloquially referred to as "Andytown" or, more disparagingly, as "Angrytown" again ive never once heard andytown referd to as angrytown(a reference to the areas reputation as a stronghold for militant Irish Nationalism republicanism).


The area publishes a newspaper named Andersonstown News which voices an Irish Republican viewpoint. The public have a right to expect that any journalist bringing into public discourse the allegations of such sources should have tried and tested the source on many previous occasions and found them to be impeccable and their information beyond reproach.
But the Andersonstown News boasted of naming Captain Margaret Walshaw - and it was right to name her - rather than jump to her defence on the very grounds it employed for Scappaticci.
