Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao(NTR) established his Telugu Desam Party (meaning, Land of Telugus) with the support of people's dissent arising out of frequent changes in chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh by Indira Gandhi, chief of Congress party and a public insult to Sri.Tanguturi Anjaiah a chief minister by Rajiv Gandhi, son of Indira Gandhi at the Hyderabad Airport. The Telugu people were used to such acts and insult to Telugu Pride and then NTR decided to plunge into politics and found overwhelming support from the people all over Andhra Pradesh. His campaign against Congress was aided by the coverage in the Telugu daily Eenadu, owned by media baron Ramoji Rao. Within a record 9 months of establishing, Telugu Desam was voted to power and NTR became the first Non-Congress chief minsiter of Andhra Pradesh. Interestingly, the media is highly biased and is openly run by politics: For e.g., Eenadu the local news paper run by Ramoji Rao who is from the Kamma community, a key supporter of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and one of the top Telugu film producers and ETV network favors the Telugu Desam and on the other hand Vaartha (The news paper run by Girish Sanghi, Industrialist and director of Sanghi industries who joined Congress party during 2004 elections) and Gemini media network favor the congress party.
