Andover is a census-designated place located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 8,489.


In 2003 this CDP was incorporated into the city of Miami Gardens.


Geography

Andover is located at 25°57'58" North, 80°12'19" West (25.966019, _80.205193)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 km˛ (1.8 mi˛). 4.4 km˛ (1.7 mi˛) of it is land and 0.3 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 6.15% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 8,489 people, 3,472 households, and 2,131 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,951.0/km˛ (5,064.4/mi˛). There are 3,956 housing units at an average density of 909.2/km˛ (2,360.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 22.04% White, 70.97% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.07% from other races, and 2.47% from two or more races. 14.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 3,472 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.4% are married couples living together, 23.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% are non-families. 33.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 3.11.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 78.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 71.2 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $31,779, and the median income for a family is $41,367. Males have a median income of $30,660 versus $26,686 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $17,798. 15.8% of the population and 11.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.3% of those under the age of 18 and 27.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
