Encyclopedia > Andrew Ainslie Common

Andrew Ainslie Common (August 7, 1841June 2, 1903) was a British astronomer.


Among other things, he observed the satellites of Mars and Saturn. He worked on astrophotography, making a celebrated early photograph of the Orion Nebula in 1883. He also worked on telescope making, building a 60-inch reflector.


He won the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1884, and served as its president from 18951896.

I'd like to get hold of some basic timber information like common timber names, properties and size for school.
Andrew has also been working with the Sydney 2000 Olympics committee and can fill you in on the potential use of timber for Games structures.
I don't have any info about the qualities of the timber, but if you quote the correct botanical name, someone at Queensland Forest Service might be able to help, as it looks as if it grows in that State.
