Encyclopedia > Andrew Cherry

Andrew Cherry (January 11, 1762 - February 12, 1812) was an Irish dramatist, songwriter, actor and theatre manager.

The son of a bookseller at Limerick, Ireland, Cherry was a successful actor, and managed theatres in the provinces. He also wrote some plays, of which The Soldier's Daughter is the best. His chief claim to remembrance rests on his three songs, "The Bay of Biscay", "The Green Little Shamrock", and "Tom Moody".
