Mentat is the name given to a macro-dataflow extension of the C++ programming language. It was developed at the University of Virginia computer science Department by a research group led by Andrew Grimshaw. The combination of the ideas needed to implement the Mentat run-time with the ideas in Carnegie Mellon University's Hydra distributed operating system led to the Legion distributed OS. Considered by many to be the thought leader in the Grid Computing movement, Dr. Andrew Grimshaw has been at the cutting edge of Peer-to-Peer computing long before the P2P buzz word was created.
Grimshaw has fourteen journal publications, three book chapters, and over twenty five refereed conference publications in the areas of what is now called P2P or Distributed Computing including a prominent chapter in the compilation book entitled "The GRID - Blueprint for a New Computing Infrastructure".
