Prof. Sihler comes from a long line of classics scholars; he is the grandnephew of Ernest Gottlieb Sihler and great-grandnephew of Wilhelm Sihler. Linguistics is the scientific study of human language, and someone who engages in this study is called a linguist. ... The Indo-European languages comprise a family of several hundred languages and dialects (443 according to the SIL estimate), including most of the major languages of Europe, as well as many in Southwest Asia, Central Asia and Southern Asia. ...
