After having contracted the disease from his HIV-positive boyfriend Juan Gomez (born 1961), Stimpson first stated that he felt "tired, weak and feverish" and had three blood test at the Victoria Clinic for Sexual Health in West London. In October 2003, Stimpson was offered another test, which came back negative. He claimed he was "baffled" and "convinced there must have been a mistake." He sued the hospital, but two later tests confirmed that both results were correct. Andrew Stimpson was born on august 3rd 1980, in greenock, He was diagnosed positive on aug 20th 2002, he had 2 positive results,Because he had 2 equivical results leading up to the positive results, both positive results were test 9 times each using different tests in 2 different hospitals and every result was positive.

Andrew Stimpson, 25, was diagnosed HIV-positive in 2002 but was found to be negative in October 2003 by Chelsea and Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust.
Mr Stimpson, who is originally from Largs in Ayrshire, said: "There are 34.9 million people with HIV globally and I am just one person who managed to control it, to survive from it and to get rid of it from my body.
Mr Stimpson told the News of the World and Mail on Sunday that he became depressed and suicidal after being told he was HIV-positive but remained well and did not require medication.
