Wing Commander Andy Green OBE (born 1962), a British RAF pilot, is the current holder of the land speed record and the first person to break the sound barrier on land.
On September 25, 1997 in ThrustSSC he beat the previous record in Black Rock Desert, USA, reaching a speed of 714.144 mph (1149.30 km/h).
Andy Green's next challenge is the driving of the JCB Dieselmax car, attempting to take the Diesel Land Speed Record over 300 mph.

His main areas of interest are, non-point source contamination of surface waters (both nutrient contamination resulting from agriculture and pollution resulting from urban runoff), ecological monitoring of environmental quality (particularly the use of macro-invertebrate communities to monitor changes in water quality), and the impact of vegetation on soil hydrology.
Andy previously worked at Cranfield University, on the EU funded MEDALUS (MEditerranean Desertification And Land USe) project, assessing the impact of root morphology on the hydraulic properties of soils.
