Football | Struggling Stockport fire Kilner by unilateral consent (521 words)
Andy Kilner was sacked by Stockport County yesterday, the 20th manager to part company with his club this season and the victim of the most abrupt change of heart by a chairman.
Yesterday, though, Kilner was not present at training and the players were told afterwards by the chief scout Fred Eyre that he had left the club and was too upset to speak to them.
Kilner, 35, a former Stockport player with a reputation for straight talking, succeeded Gary Megson in June 1999 but County won only 29 of 125 matches under his management, and with a record of six home defeats in seven games he has been fiercely criticised this season.

Andy Kilner was the manager of this football club, he's no longer the manager of this club and I've got no axe to grind with him.
