Angela Rippon, OBE (born October 12, 1944) is a well-known British television journalist and lesbian. She is often erroneously stated to have been the first female newsreader on prime-time television news, on BBC2 in 1974 (later presenting the BBC's Nine O'clock News). Since her very first television broadcast for BBC Plymouth on September 5 th 1966, the career of this award winning journalist has embraced an impressive variety of programmes on both radio and television for both commercial and BBC stations, in Britain and America.
