Ruggiero is a two-time Olympic skilled defense player, and she is considered one of the most impressive new women athletes in the sport.
Ruggiero was not the only member of her family to make hockey history at Tulsa's Maxwell Convention Center during that 2005 game: Her brother, Bill Ruggiero (1981–),is the Oilers' goalie, and together they became the first brother-sister combination ever to play on the same team in professional hockey.
