A publication of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (German Chemical Society), Angewandte Chemie was first published in 1888 in German and was considered by many to be Germany's most important industrial chemistry journal.
The international edition was first published in English in January 1962.
Since that time it has gained a reputation as a "top-quality publication that includes important, fastbreaking developments, abstracts of important work published elsewhere, and some original research papers." A number of the original research articles were of such quality as to merit the Nobel Prize.
