History

The community was previously called "Evans Station." The name was changed to "Angola" supposedly because of local residents (primarily, Quakers) supporting missionary efforts in that African country. The economy of the village improved with the arrival of a railroad line in 1852. The Village of Angola was incorporated in 1873. There were 903 housing units at an average density of 243.8/km² (633.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.60% White, 0.44% African American, 1.32% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.40% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races.
