Anianus served as Patriarch of Alexandria from 68 to 82, a position which preceded the Popes of the Coptic Church and Orthodox Church of Alexandria.
He was the successor of Saint Mark the Evangelist, and is, in fact, mentioned in the apocryphal Acts of Mark.
Saint Mark mentions that Anianus was a cobbler who repaired his sandals.
