Anil Biswas (July 1914 - May 2003) was a famous music composer whose songs graced Indian films from 1935 to 1965. He was arguably the greatest music director of 20th century.

Born in Barisal (now in Bagla Desh) in 1914, he firstmade his name in Kolkata in early 1930s and moved to Mumbai around 1934 where he soon began getting independent assignments as composer. His last film was Chhoti Chhoti Baaten (1965).

Anil Biswas passed away in Delhi in May 2003.

His body was donated to NRS Medical College and Hospital according to his last wishes. He is survived by his wife Gita and daughter Ajanta.

Anil Biswas was born on 7th July 1914 in the Barisal District Town of East Bengal.
Not knowing Punjabi, Anil Biswas was initially reluctant in composing music for the Punjabi version, but on being criticized through press for being Bengali, he took the challenge with the help from the song writers Shah Aziz, Arshad Gujrati and the dialogue writer Lala Yaqub.
Anil Biswas married her but it could not last as a life long partnership and was snapped by mistrust.
