Anitos were idols worshiped by some Filipinos before the coming of the Spaniards. It was believed that anitos held magical powers, some for good and others for evil. This tradition was slowly purged by the CatholicSpanish and is nearly nonexistant today except for in very remote regions.
The sudden and completely unexplained disappearance of their father, Datu Maktan, is the event that sets the stage for Anito.
However, ANITOs in the game are particularly rare and much sought after relics that are rumored to give their owners particular powers and a connection to the land itself.
Anito offers two unique points of view for the same story - each character, for example, starts in a different town and has unique quests not available for the other character; the player can choose a character at the start of the game.
When Datu Maktan, leader of the Mangatiwala tribe and the land's most influential peacemaker, mysteriously disappears, it is up to his children Agila and Maya to find him and restore the delicate peace that their father has kept in balance, before conflicting forces tear the land apart.
Anito would probably fall a little short of Divine Divinity's.
Anito is a fine game and worth trying if you like story based role palying games.
