The success of the town is based on the forest industry along the Kymi Riverside. The paper factories Stora Enso Oyj and Myllykoski Paper Oy are the main employers together with the town itself.
Anjalankoski offers plenty of cultural and sport activities, namely the football team MyPa. A place worth visiting is the Anjala Manor Museum with its surroundings.
In 1993 the company’s forest and packaging business was bought by Enso-Gutzeit Oy.
In 1872 Baron Carl August Standertskjöld was given permission to build a wood pulp mill in the present town of Anjalankoski on the banks of the Kymijoki River at the Ankkapurha rapids.
He also obtained the rights to make board and paper.
