History

The first known record of Ankang in history happened when it was placed into Xicheng prefecture (西城县) of Hanchong County (汉中郡) during the Qin dynasty。 In 1783, the place was named "Ankang prefecture". The prefecture was upgrade to city in 1950, but demoted in 1954, and promoted again in 1988.
