Carbonate is an anion with a charge of -2 and an empirical formula of CO32-. An aqueous solution of carbon dioxide contains a minute amount of H2CO3, called carbonic acid, which dissociates to form hydrogen ions and carbonate ions. ... Minerals are natural compounds formed through geological processes. ... Dolomite from Touissite, Morocco Dolomite is a mineral (formula CaMg(CO3)2) consisting of a calcium magnesium carbonate found in crystals and in beds as dolostone. ...

Ankerite can result from hydrothermal or direct groundwater precipitation. It can also be the result of metamorphic recrystallization of iron-rich sedimentary rocks. It is often found as a gangue mineral associated with gold and a variety of sulfide minerals in ore deposits. Metamorphic rock is the result of the transformation of a pre-existing rock type, the protolith, in a process called metamorphism, which means change in form, derived from the Greek words meta, change, and morphe, form. The protolith is subjected to extreme heat (>150 degrees Celsius) and pressure causing profound... Two types of sedimentary rock: limey shale overlaid by limestone. ... General Name, Symbol, Number Gold, Au, 79 Chemical series transition metals Group, Period, Block 11 (IB), 6, d Density, Hardness 19300 kg/m3, 2. ... In chemistry, a sulfide (sulphide in British and Canadian English) is a chemical compound or combination of sulfur with an oxidation number of -2, with another chemical element or a radical thereof. ... An ore is a mineral deposit containing a metal or other valuable resource in economically viable concentrations. ...

Ankerite was named after Mathias J. Anker (1771-1843), an Austrian mineralogist.

Dolomite/Ferroan Dolomite- Very interesting saddle shaped crystals in white, brown, orange, pink, yellow, and fl crystals occur.
Ankerite has not been positively identified in Keokuk geodes (Sinotte 1969) despite previously and some recent published works due to the lack of enough iron in the dolomite (even in very dark dolomite crystals).
Research continues on the possibility of ankerite in some Keokuk geode samples.
