Lee comprimises one half of Blood Axis, creates music under her solo project Alraune and has collaborated extensively with Waldteufel. She was a member of Amber Asylum and has worked with various musicians, including Fire + Ice, In Gowan Ring, Kembra Pfahler, and The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, Backworld, Crash Worship, Pauline Oliveros and Alvin Curran. The American composer Lou Harrison wrote "Round for Annabelle and April for 2 soprano instruments" for Annabel and her sister while he was visiting the family in Stuttgart, Germany in 1981 May 29-30. Lee helped write and shoot Red Spirit Lake (1993) and We Await (1995) although she changed her name to Ellen Smithy in the credits.
