Jefferies started acting at the Twelfth Night Community Theatre in Brisbane, Australia when she was 10 years old. She studied drama under June Smith at Bellaire High and under Sidney Berger and Cecil Pickett at the University of Houston (Pickett also coached other notable actors including Cindy Pickett, his daughter, Randy Quaid, Dennis Quaid, Brent Spiner, Trey Wilson, Robert Wuhl and Thomas Schlamme).
