Anne is a mental health patient with a volatile temperament. She is resident at the Steven Spielberg Hospital (a reference to the director), under the care of Dr Lawrence. The character is functionally non-verbal (aside from the catchphrase "eh eh eh") and appears to be severely retarded or autistic. Anne generally means well, but will often do spontaneous things such as throw a guinea-pig out of a window or tip milk over Dr Lawrence's head. Anne also may be a coprophiliac, as she is often seen painting with what appears to be faeces. In many of the sketches, Anne seems to have a romantic interest in an inspector that Dr Lawrence is touring the hospital with, Doctor Beagrie: she strokes him on the cheek or gives him money for no apparent reason. Doctor Beagrie seems very reluctant to visit Anne, and it seems that Dr Lawrence is making him visit her. The character only seems able to speak normally on certain occasions, such as whilst on the phone or appearing on Stars in Their Eyes. Every other time she speaks she can only manage her catchphrase, "Eh-eh-ehhh!". She also has a part-time job at Brayton College. It is believed by some that Anne is really a schizophrenic man in drag who thinks he is a woman, since when she speaks normally it is always in a masculine voice. Also, it is questionable whether her spontaneous behavior is just an act for Dr. Lawrence.
