Anne Sargeant represented Australian Netball for over a decade, 1978 -1988, captaining the Australian Netball Team for six years. Perhaps one of the greatest ambassadors for sport this country has known, Anne has continued to channel her many talents into sport and the media. Anne's representations have included the Australian Sports Commission, the NSW Australia Day Council, Children's Week, Board Member - McDonald's, School Sport 2000 Committee and Patron of the 1994 Year of the Coach.
In addition, Anne is a respected columnist, after-dinner and motivational speaker.
In 2004, Anne was named Sydney’s Greatest Ever Netballer.
The ABC has denied claims prominent netball commentator AnneSargeant was sacked because of her age.
But ABC television's head of sport, Iain Knight, has denied Ms Sargeant's claims, saying the decision not to use her was based on a new approach to netball coverage, focussed more heavily on expert commentary.
He says Ms Sargeant's skills are as a lead commentator, and it was this factor, and not her age, that led to the decision.
AnneSargeant is 48 and is on her way out after 16 years as the broadcaster's leading netball commentator, replaced by Boniello and two twenty something players heading for retirement.
Sargeant, a former Australian captain, was equally gracious towards Boniello and the other women who are to take her place - Eloise Southby-Halbish and the former Sydney Swifts star Sam Dennis.
Sargeant was looking forward to her 10th year covering the national competition.
