Born in Paris, Anouk Aim e is the daughter of another actress, Genevi ve Sorya, and began her career in French films at the age of sixteen, changing her real name from Fran oise Sorya Dreyfus. She later appeared in La Dolce Vita and in Jacques Demy's Lola. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1966 for her role in the film that brought her real international fame, A Man and a Woman.
From 1970 to 1978, she was married to the British actor Albert Finney. Her third husband (1951-54) was the film director Nikos Papatakis.
Born into a theatrical family, AnoukAimee was trained in acting and dancing at the Bauer-Therond school.
Aimee (usually billed merely as Anouk) was elevated to international stardom in 1949's Lovers of Verona, specifically written for her by Jacques Prevert.
Looking every bit as alluring as she had in '66, AnoukAimee reprised this role in 1986's A Man and a Woman: Twenty Years Later.
